If you have made it to my bio page, then chances are you are considering seeking professional mental health services and more importantly, you are wondering if we might be a good fit. There are a lot of factors that contribute to what make therapy effective. While fancy letters next to someone's name are good sign that the therapist you are looking at is well-trained, they don't offer any insight about how effective they will be working with you. Therapy is most helpful when you feel like you are understood, supported, and respected by your therapist. I hope you will take advantage of the free 15 minute consultation that can be scheduled directly from the Book an Appointment page before scheduling our first appointment.
I began pursuing a career in therapy with the goal
to support members of the LGBTQ+ community who like myself feel more
comfortable working with an LGBTQ+ provider in a therapeutic setting. As
I continue to grow as a professional, the therapeutic techniques I use
are constantly being fine tuned and changing. Even so, my view that it
is imperative that clients see our time in the therapy office together
as a time and place for healing, reflection, and personal growth without
fear of judgement remains the same.
I see myself as a trusted
guide on your individual journey of growth or your growth as a couple.
To meet your unique needs and improve chances of meeting your goals, I
make sure that my strategy is in line with your individual needs. In our
first call together, I will ask about the issues you would like to work
on, and I will be transparent about what I feel are realistic outcomes
for our treatment. We will also periodically check in on your current
goals and make any adjustments after reviewing and discussing them
together.
Most importantly, my top priority is to provide you
with a safe space to do this heavy work. There are several ways I make
our space one that is emotionally safe:
• Using a sex-positive, kink-friendly, nonjudgmental approach
• Co-creating treatment goals with you that meet your unique needs
• Inviting feedback about your current treatment goals and adjusting them as needed
• Keeping your best interest ahead of mine including by referring you to another therapist if we are not a good fit
•
Perhaps most importantly, I respect your privacy, and I safeguard all
of your information (e-mail, payment information, and PHI) by using
HIPAA-compliant, secure platforms with encryption. Any teletherapy
appointments are conducted with a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.
I particularly enjoy working with couples in the area of infidelity repair and betrayal trauma. Discovering an affair is
devastating to a relationship as a whole and creates chaos for the
individual members of the relationship because of the intense emotional
fallout. Some examples include shattered trust, an intense feeling of
uncertainty in yourself and your partner, and feeling like nothing will
ever be normal for you or your relationship again.
Maybe you are both just at a loss for where to start. I have experience with helping couples navigate these difficult and unclear waters and helping contain the storm while we do this heavy work. My lived experience as a gay man also informs my practice. I also have experience with sexuality and intimacy issues for either individuals or couples.
Please feel free to reach out to me to schedule a free phone consultation so we can get to know each other before your first appointment.
Services
Sexuality and Gender
While diverse sexuality and gender identity are not inherently stressful, social stigma certainly can be. Prism Counseling is committed to providing a space that is supportive of diverse sexual orientation and gender identity. If you need support while exploring your identity including sexual orientation, gender identity, and everything in between, I have a space for you. If you are a member of the LGBTQ+ community and are simply looking for a space to work on problems that are not related to sexuality or gender, I have space for you as well.
Couple's Counseling
Couple's counseling is a good place to work on current and new issues within the relationship. Couples can benefit from this type of counseling and work through a range of issues including routine maintenance, pre-marital counseling, rebuilding trust, intimacy issues, life stages, and many more. Betrayal trauma, addictions, in-laws, and money can all wreak havoc on the best of relationships if these problems aren't handled properly. Start here to learn more about this service.
Work Through Infidelity
If you recently cheated on your partner or are in an ongoing affair, you may be at a loss for words or delicate techniques to divulge this painful information. What is universal about either of these perspectives is that for the relationship to heal, rigorous honesty and transparency are major factors in whether or not a relationship can be rebuilt after such a breach of trust.
